DOMAIN PARKING!

Domain names are being bought-up all of the time.  So, if you are able to think of a good domain name for a future project, then it’s recommended you register it before another person does.

While your domain name is inactive and your website is in the process of being designed, you can park your domain name with a domain parking service.

If you don't configure your domain name to point to a web server, then your registrar will likely park your domain name automatically, using their own parking service.  You will not see any revenue from your domain name using such a service.

If you don’t plan on using your domain name for a while, you might want to consider shopping around for a revenue sharing domain parking service. These services work by offering up ads on your domain name's parked web page.  When a visitor comes to your parked page and clicks on one of the ads, you receive a percentage of the money that the domain parking company has charged the advertiser to display that ad.

Not all domain names are suitable for parking. It’s only really worth parking your domain with a domain parking service if your domain name is receiving a lot of hits/visitors, otherwise it doesn’t warrant the time in setting up.

Some domainers (people involved in the domain name business) will buy domain names with the sole intent of parking them. They will look for available domains on the domain name aftermarket that have recently expired.

Domainers that purchase domains for the purposes of parking will usually only select domain names that have in the past received good amounts of traffic.  This is because even after they expire they will continue to receive hits from people how have bookmarked the site and/or referral hits from web pages that link to it.

Domain parking companies partner with PPC advertising programs, such as ‘Google Adsense for Domains’, to generate the ads displayed on parked pages.
